Named after the great American minimalist artist Agnes Martin (1912–2004), Agnes Vertical Lines was inspired by Virginia’s visit to an exhibition of Martin’s work at Tate Modern. The quiet beauty of Martin’s work, with its subtle colours and delicate tonal variations, became the starting point for the design. Hand-drawn vertical lines give the pattern its distinctive character, with their gentle imperfections creating a wonderful sense of movement and rhythm.
