Designed by artist Alexander Hamilton, who trained in Italy and specialises in large-scale mural design, Iona takes inspiration from ancient Celtic patterns of woven and plaited borders found in the Book of Kells. The design is named after the small and mystical island of Iona on the west coast of Scotland, a place of particular beauty and significance to Virginia and her family, and after which her first daughter was also named.
